freelance services

I am available to edit fiction, nonfiction, and poetry manuscripts, and I serve as a sensitivity reader for works that pertain to Asian American, queer, and non-binary themes and experiences; biraciality; and twins. I also transcribe audio interviews, typing at 100 words per minute. I provide freelance publicity services to writers and artists from marginalized communities.

MANUSCRIPT EDITING

Addie Tsai is a very experienced and careful editor. She took her time with my manuscript and saw a vision for it that at times I couldn’t see. Addie really thinks about your work, your voice, and how to get the most from it for it to be strong and successful.

—Amanda Auchter, author of The Glass Crib

The job was an editing nightmare. I asked Addie Tsai to derive a short, powerful summary from a meandering monologue over fifty pages long, and create a scannable quote that got to the essence of the person. It had to convey their story and sound exactly like they were talking. And I needed many like this. Addie's work was magically insightful, professional, and quick.

SENSITIVITY READING

My novel DoveLion (ACBooks, 2021) raises such elements as indigeneity, transgenderness, orphanhood, mixed-race/POC identity and sexuality, among others. As a sensitivity reader, Addie Tsai ensured my approaches in language and character development avoided reductiveness or inaccuracies. The result is a deeper, more multi-layered novel which befits its topics and avoids it falling flat from unrealized ambition. Sensitivity readers sometimes gets a bad rap from presumably being focused on what’s politically correct—but the best sensitivity readers incorporate the skills of both developmental editing and copyediting. My experience shows Addie Tsai to be a skilled editor on many levels, with the bonus of sensitive customer service. I am grateful for my experience with her.

—Eileen Tabios, author of DoveLion

I am very grateful for Addie Tsai's expertise as a sensitivity reader. She was one of a few who reviewed my completed manuscript before I sent it out for agenting and publication. Her feedback on my themes of feminism, misogynoir, family turmoil, and twins helped me hone the strength of my concept and amplify the message of Black femme empowerment. I highly recommend her thoughtful and valuable insight as a writer and reader.
